Did you know the Department of Homeland Security issued a lexicon that defined domestic extremists including those participating in anti-tax movements and pro-environment groups? In fact, in reading this blog you are utilizing one of the entities named in the lexicon:
Alternative media: A term used to describe various information sources that provide a forum for interpretations of events and issues that differ radically from those presented in mass media products and outlets.
Didn’t know you were a potential extremist because you read blogs, did you? The report describes Christian, Jewish, black, Puerto Rican and Nordic mysticism groups as needing watching, along with many others. Nothing about Islamic groups in there. Interesting, isn’t it?
Another interesting point about the descriptions is that you don’t actually have to do anything illegal to be of interest, you just have to believe “vehemently” in something. Passion is a dangerous thing to the DHS. You can read the PDF here.
The lexicon has since been withdrawn.
If you believe, vehemently or not, that Janet Napolitano should resign, there’s a petition here.
